Hi! I'm Reine Huang, a high school senior interested in universal design principles driven technological innovations and urban plannings

My Story

My journey in universal design began when I experienced the challenges of navigating urban environments after a severe injury. Studying familiar surroundings with a new perspective helped me understand the everyday obstacles faced by people like my grandmother, who live with mobility impairments. I came to realize how profoundly design principles shape our lives, influencing everything from technological innovations to the ways our cities are planned. This understanding sparked my vision for a future where inclusivity and accessibility are woven into decision-making processes, not as policies to be advocated for, but as foundational principles.
To bring this vision closer to reality, I’ve delved into research on fall prevention and advocated for policy improvements through my work with GSCI. As a research assistant at the UCSB Thermofluid Energy Lab, I also contribute to efforts in reducing defects in 3D-printed metals, a step towards safer and more reliable structures. Through initiatives like Chronos and the ARTex Society, I find fulfillment in giving back to my community and fostering connections within the engineering world.
Thank you for considering my story :)
